Djembe
Size for size this is perhaps the most powerful drum known. Used in most
West African rhythms, this drum is a favorite at drum circles and is more
frequently seen crossing over into all types of "ethnic" and
"world" music.
Traditional
West African
Our drums are coming from Senegal, Mali and The Gambia and are crafted
from single blocks of Wankare or Dimba wood. This is the wood originally
used to make these drums and is unsurpassed in tonal quality. These drums
tend to be fairly heavy. We choose our drums carefully and are the "cream
of the crop" though they will still vary somewhat in size and quality
which is why there will be a range in pricing structure. Head sizes range
from 12 to 15 inches on average with heights ranging from 20 to 24 inches.
Many drums are also include one-of-a-kind carvings embellishing the shells
and are available at no extra charge.
